Samsung Galaxy Watch, the first model with titanium case is coming

Samsung is working to renew the smartwatch offer: there is a new exponent of the Galaxy Watch line in the pipeline which is described by rumours as the true heir of the first Galaxy Watch with rotating bezel (opening photo). The Galaxy Watch Active and Active 2 presented last year were not considered substitutes but rather alternatives.

The smartwatch is back to talk after the spread of new rumours that envisage the hypothesis of the launch of the product in two versions, distinguished by size: SM-R840 and SM-R850 (the details on the case measurements are unknown, but please note that the original Galaxy Watch was available in 42 and 46mm sizes). There is another even more noteworthy detail: it will be the first smartwatch from the South Korean manufacturer with a titanium case.

If the rumour proves to be true, Samsung's plan to raise the bar of construction quality to try to close the gap that separates it from the current rulers of the smartwatch segment will be clear, that is Apple and its Watch. The company has already used materials such as aluminium and stainless steel to give body to the previous models, while Apple has introduced titanium with the fifth-generation Apple Watches.

Titanium is a very resistant and also expensive metal - for a reference, Apple Watch Series 5 with aluminium case starts from 459 euros, the one with titanium case from 859 euros. A Galaxy Watch with a titanium case will not be sold at reasonable prices, which is why it is plausible that this luxury version will be joined by others with slightly less noble metals.

For the moment there are no confirmations on the launch date which could also coincide with that scheduled for new Galaxy smartphones - for example, the next Notes expected for the summer. The commercial name of the product is not even clear: Samsung could continue to carry on the Watch Active line with a third model (Galaxy Watch Active 3) or simply call it Galaxy Watch 2.
